How One Classic Piece Can Be the Surprising Queen of Any Wardrobe

Simple and silent, she hangs among other items – one of many choices.  But without demanding attention, she projects confidence and stability among dressier options just inches away.  She's secure in the knowledge that she's The Queen.

Others might scoff at her trend-proof qualities.  She is, after all, so basic.  How has she lasted for so long?  Why is she still selected so often?

Versatility and a season-spanning color are among her most appealing qualities.  Providing style, warmth, or effortless comfort depending on the day, she never fails to deliver.

With a personality suited for either work or play, she's an impressive player in a fashionable world.  She ages gracefully and is loved by all.  Whether paired with a floaty sun dress, a gathered skirt, tailored pants, or jeans and a tee shirt, she not only blends harmoniously, but makes a good outfit better.  Whether cuddling with a turtleneck and a big winter scarf, or augmenting shorts and a tank top on a breezy summer evening, she's perfect for the job.  She's everything to everyone, but never seems overworked.

When you're tired of trying to keep up with ever-changing fashion trends, and worry that everything in your closet is suddenly unwearable, she reminds you that some things really do stand the test of time.  Trends are fickle and fleeting, whether you follow them or not.  But her endurance gives you strength.

It's a red-letter day when this faithful friend enters your wardrobe.  In her unassuming way, she befriends every piece while taking her place at the front of the line.  She is, after all, a denim jacket.

Hey, lovely readers!  This post was inspired by an old "note to self" I jotted down in 2022.  I was so happy to get an email from the lady who wrote the piece that inspired me – she is actually a long-time subscriber to this blog!  I know you'll enjoy her work, so visit Carol on her site when you get a chance.

MINIMALIST WARDROBE book
Most of us have closets that are jam-packed, and getting dressed every morning can be an exercise in frustration.  It's a modern consumer belief that we need a large wardrobe to be interesting.  Of course we want to be appropriately dressed, and why not wear attractive clothes that flatter our body types and coloring?  But none of that demands a huge quantity of clothing.  Limits encourage creativity, and a smaller closet doesn't have to be boring or restrictive.

My book, The Minimalist Wardrobe,* can be your guide to a wardrobe that passes the "feel good test," and lets you wear your favorite things every day.
